I’m the one who started redevelopment in South Los Angeles, not Jan Perry. I did it. I love Jan. She’s a good person, and she did a wonderful job with what she did downtown, but in L.A., South L.A., I’m the one.

There’s the downtown area of Tupelo. Did you see the skyscrapers? Two stories.

The old studios that mass-produced dreams are gone with the wind, just like the old downtown theaters that were the temples of the dreams.

In Harlem, I got all my black friends. But when I go downtown, I got black, white, Asian, Indian friends. There’s no borders, no barriers.

In the late 1960s, Ontario Airport was a throwback to a bygone era. Located 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, the airport served only two carriers, Western and Bonanza. During the winter of 2013, we were running ‘Comet‘ up in midtown – as opposed to downtown – and across the street in the Standard, and that was, like, our third time going at it, from Ars Nova to downtown to near Broadway. We weren’t on Broadway. We were near Broadway, as we said.

I have a very high love for the game. My mom would always drop me off at the YMCA downtown in Flint, and I’d stay there all day. If she couldn’t take me, I’d take the bus there and be there until she’d pick me up when she got off work. I’ve always had the love for basketball.

The amount of attention and sensitivity and education that we’re getting in terms of specifically the transgender community is great, and certainly that’s new to me. But it’s not incredibly unfamiliar. I grew up in downtown New York in the ‘80s.

Last year, when we were in Mobile, Al., covering Hurricane Ivan, we heard the stories of poor people, many of them black stranded downtown because they had no way out.

And so many of the kinds of labels you get stuck with don’t really tell the story; Progressive, Art Rock, Noise Music, Downtown – it ends up being a struggle to stay out of debates that other people are having around you.

Downtown. Lights on buildings and everything that makes you wonder. And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.

Downtown Detroit has more vacant buildings over 10 storeys than any city in the world.

I think when it comes to women who write or who fancy ourselves ‘hip downtown literati’, there is a certain contempt for being overly sexual or really looking for boyfriends. We tend to be marginalized as some ‘Sex & The City’ Carrie Bradshaw chick-lit dummies who just want shoes and a ring.

When I was a kid in the ’60s, I went shopping in downtown Silver Spring. Hecht’s, JCPenney, the little retailers – they sponsored all my sports teams.

My first CD that I had was the Ying Yang Twinz, and my grandma bought it for me. Honestly, I think my grandma got it from a thrift store or something. She just got it for me. It was in downtown Philadelphia. And I would listen to it. I liked it. None of my friends did, though, but I liked it.

In July of 2010, I lost my finance job in Chicago. Instead of updating my resume and looking for a similar job, I decided to forget about money and have a go at something I truly enjoyed. I’d purchased a semi-professional camera earlier that year and spent my free time taking photos in downtown Chicago.

I was the illegitimate child of the legitimate theater. I had no training. I came from downtown rock and roll, and when I came in and auditioned for the Broadway revival of ‘Hair,’ I had no eyebrows – kind of a Bowie-esque glimmer kid. And it was hard representing the flower power era when we were stone cold punks.

I went downtown as a lawyer and then I worked in a liquor store at night, as I had done all through law school. And so when I got to the point where I could give up the night job, I joined the political club.

Yeah. When you want what’s real and you try to find that in high school, you might as well be looking for a mossy rock beside a babbling brook on the corner of Sixth and Pine in downtown Seattle.

It’s definitely been a long, long… long, long, long, long, long journey since I was selling burnt CD’s out of my backpack in downtown Oakland.

I was bringing the whole music, hip-hop, art, break dancing and urban cultural thing to the downtown table.

The police can go to downtown Harlem and pick up a kid with a joint in the streets. But they can’t go into the elegant apartments and get a stockbroker who’s sniffing cocaine.

Consider that the overwhelming majority of those 40,000 near-Earth asteroids are small enough to fit on the parking lot at the mall. And while these rocky runts won’t cause Armageddon, they could still flatten such popular hominid hangouts as Manhattan or downtown Des Moines.

Official boundaries are often hard to see. If you head north on Woodward Avenue, away from downtown Detroit, you wouldn’t know exactly when you left the city and crossed over into Oakland County – except for a small sign that tells you.

But there is so much more to do for the city we love… a Dallas with roads as strong as our businesses, parks as beautiful as our children, a downtown as tall as our imagination.

A multi-purpose stadium is an absolute must in order to invigorate our downtown and, simultaneously, let the rest of the country witness that we can get things done.

Expanding the Toronto Island Airport will undermine the downtown’s economy and liveability and intensify pollution and smog from Oshawa to Oakville. I urge Torontonians to close down this dangerous Trojan horse and get on with planning constructive and delightful ways of using our magnificent lakeside assets.

I think we were instrumental in saving downtown Seattle. To me, that’s the biggest thing we did.

When you’ve got worries, all the noise and the hurry seems to help, I know. Downtown.

‘The Good Guy‘ is a totally differently-looking New York than ‘How To Make It’ portrays. ‘The Good Guy‘ is all about Wall Street and that culture, which ‘How To Make It’ touches on, but ‘How To Make It’ also is downtown, Lower East Side loft parties, cool clubs, Brooklyn and that world.

I LOVE DOWNTOWN LA and I relish any opportunity to spend time there.

I just won the gold medal and I couldn’t eat downtown. I said, ‘Something’s wrong.’ And from then on, I’ve been a Muslim.

Since I got to college, I wanted my own shoe and clothing spot. It’s called ‘Catalyst.’ That’s the ultimate goal. I wanna put it downtown Sacramento. It’s poppin down there. They don’t have anything like that.

I grew up in Los Angeles, and my first musical theatre experiences were at the Music Center in downtown L.A.

I first saw Walter Hill’s second film, ‘The Driver,’ as a teenager, late at night on the BBC, quite possibly sitting too close to the telly. Given that this 1978 slice of neo-noir takes place almost entirely in the dark streets of a deserted downtown L.A., it’s really a perfect midnight movie.

In my late teens, early 20s, when I started stand-up and I was living downtown for the first time, I was deep into my blues and Bukowski phase. And, you know, that’s when that’s appropriate. And I grew out of it.

My mother had been an actress and we came from that world in New York, the theater world and the downtown sort of theater scene, and so I guess we didn’t really have what you’d call like a Hollywood kind of life at all.

The morning we left South Bend, every student and professor was out of bed long before breakfast and marched downtown accompanying the team to the railroad station. It was the first time I’d seen anything like this mass hysteria generated on the Notre Dame campus over a football game.
